Much of what I learned in the TESOL course has come in very useful, particularly lists of websites for resources! I am given no resources at all by the tertiary college here, so each lesson requires a fair bit of planning. This is not detracting from my enjoyment of being here, or my satisfaction in the classroom by any means.
We are on contract here in Ukraine until December, but we may not be in a hurry to head back to Australia.
Thanks again for your wonderful TESOL course and brilliant newsletter updates.
Keep up the good work ATA!
The course provided me with valuable information, such as how to identify what TESOL level the students might be working at, how to use realia [whatever happens to be easily available e.g. flowers for colour lessons], how to plan lessons according to the time allocated, what methods are used to keep focus and interest, and how to reinforce the learning. Also, what topics might be appropriate and why, and so much more
The ATA TESOL course has enabled me to travel, experience, live and volunteer in a most rewarding and special way, my life has been enhanced.
In April 2003 I studied for my TESOL certificate at ATA TESOL College which was then located under the Story Bridge. Immediately after finishing my TESOL certificate I received 70 job offers from around the world and decided to accept one at an English training Centre in Guangzhou in the South of China.
I now have nine Private English School in Guangzhou. I strongly believe the reason I have been able to create a successful teaching career in China, is because the excellent training I received at my TESOL training at ATA TESOL College in April 2003. Their classrooms are inspiring and educational. The teachers are excellent and the management is equal to none. I highly recommend ATA TESOL College for anyone who wishes to study to teach English as a second language and establish a fantastic teaching career.
I live in the place I want (a small village in the mountains) and frequently – I have been to places that most people, including Japanese, do not know about!
And how did this happen? Well I completed an ATA Advanced Diploma four years ago. Thanks to this I have not only the qualification, but heaps of knowledge and a link to many important resources. The course gave me the confidence and the knowledge that I needed to be a great English teacher! Not to mention, ATA staff are all very friendly and helpful!
If your dream is to work, live and travel overseas then start an ATA course now! Don’t hesitate! No excuses! May I add that I am not just straight out of school and when I came here, my (then) 16 year old son came too, and experienced the richness of living abroad! The world is your oyster!
My husband and I went to Slovenia to teach after having applied for a job online. We had done the TESOL course with ATA in Brisbane and wanted to make use of it. We found this teaching job and applied. I was accepted immediately after a Skype interview.
After a year in Slovenia we wondered, where to next? We decided China, so we went onto the internet and found a placement for us both at the same college in Wuxi which is inland from Shanghai.
I would encourage anyone wanting to experience something different to do the TESOL course. You have a better than most chance to gain a position in most countries overseas, but be professional about it so you can leave with a good feeling of achievement.
